Chhattisgarh Cabinet Increases Age Limit For Government Jobs By 5 Years

The age limit benefit is not applicable for positions in the police department.

Deputy CM Arun Sao said that recognising the existing five-year age relaxation for female candidates, the cabinet opted to extend the same benefit to male applicants applying for the constable positions.

On Wednesday, the Chhattisgarh government, led by Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai, announced a one-time relaxation of five years in the upper age limit for residents applying for government jobs, excluding positions in the police department. The decision was made during a cabinet meeting in Raipur. Additionally, the cabinet approved the formation of a sub-committee to examine political cases registered with the police, as stated by Deputy Chief Minister Arun Sao.

Deputy CM Arun Sao confirmed that the sub-committee, led by the other Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Sharma, will oversee the examination of political cases reported to the police. He also highlighted that residents of Chhattisgarh will benefit from a five-year upper age limit relaxation until December 31, 2028, when applying for state government jobs, except positions in the home (police) department. It’s important to note that the overall maximum age limit for government job applicants, set at 45 years, remains unaffected, as clarified by Arun Sao.

He mentioned that in 2018, the Chhattisgarh police advertised the recruitment of 2,259 constables. Subsequently, on October 4, 2023, a new advertisement was released for the recruitment of 5,967 constables. The application process for these positions is being conducted online and submissions are still being accepted.

Arun Sao explained that recognising the existing five-year age relaxation for female candidates, the cabinet opted to extend the same benefit to male applicants applying for the constable positions.

The cabinet, in a noteworthy move, sanctioned the creation of a sub-committee to withdraw politically motivated cases from the state’s judiciary. This committee will evaluate and determine the withdrawal of police cases against individuals involved in political protests. The decisions regarding upper age relaxation for government recruitments and the establishment of a sub-committee underline the Chhattisgarh government’s dedication to addressing job aspirants’ concerns and fostering social justice within the state.
